One of the most outstanding teachers of the 21st century, Zig Ziglar, who has written on salesmanship, motivation, and, of course, personal development, once was quoted as saying:
“You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”
If you follow or are connected to me on Linked In – and this is your invitation to do so – you know that I have been harping on setting goals for the past two weeks. I will continue doing so because it is the first step to building a big book of business. You need to know where you want to go in life.
But you also need the right attitude to make sure you get there.
There have been numerous studies about having a positive attitude and success. Google “studies on positive thinking being effective,” and more than 1.5 billion results are returned.
It’s no secret that almost every professional and personal development guru out there repeatedly dwells upon positivity as part of your means to be successful. It is not just “woo-woo” spirituality but scientific fact.
And even if it were just hokum, what does it hurt to be more positive if it works?
As lawyers, we are really not the most optimistic bunch. There are a whole host of reasons, and without writing too much about it, since much brighter people than I have done so, like Dr. Larry Richard and Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman, you can change your attitude.
And when you have to have the right attitude, you can become a great Rainmaker:
- You need to be positive and optimistic: Develop the image that you are a Rainmaker and you will be.
- You need to make Rainmaking fun: What do you like to do? Any hobby or activity can be turned into a Rainmaking Opportunity.
- You are always a Rainmaker: No matter where you are, no matter what you are doing, if there is one other person in the room (even metaphorically when it comes to being online), you have the opportunity to convert that person or their referrals into new clients.
- You need to pick the right Rainmaking activities for YOU.
Expect to win! Because, as Zig Ziglar has said, you were born to win!
