Rainmaking Recommendation #5  – Time is on your side

Standing in line?  Waiting for an appointment?  Delayed at the doctor’s office? Stopped dead in massive traffic?  Sitting on a train?


Those 10 – 15 minutes (or more) can be used productively to accomplish one or more              Rainmaking Activities

Almost everyone has time which is being wasted with waiting per day.  Take those formerly wasted minutes and use them to:

  • Send a text,
  • Make a call,
  • Write a “Thank You” note or email.

In short  – Create or strengthen  a connection with a current or potential client or referral source.  Always have available a list of people (at least in your mind) with whom an extra bit of contact may change your career, lead to a new client or matter.

Never again say “I don’t have the time.”

Time is on your side if you use every moment creatively and productively.

  2. Great post! I often respond to emails that don’t require long replies directly from my cell phone while on the go. It’s also important, however, to remember when NOT to use those free 15 minutes…for example, when we are in a meeting or somewhere where we should be devoting our attention to listening to another person or client. As attorneys, we’re often multitasking, but it’s also important to remember when it might not be appropriate to multitask.

    Thanks for the comment. You are so right! Please read my post on Cell Phone etiquette posted earlier.

    And certainly you should not drive and text or talk (without hands free). This was really for those times when you find yourself doing nothing.


  4. Those moments can also be used to recharge (and be more productive.) If you take those few moments at a stoplight to take 3 deep breaths, or if you meditate for a few minutes while waiting for the doctor you will go on to those texts, emails, or calls with renewed energy and clarity.

    Great reminder of all the little moments we might miss, Jaimie!
