Rainmaking Recommendation #146 New Year’s Resolutions (aka Decisions, Decision, Decisions)

Happy New Year!

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for this year?

Have you ever made any resolutions in the past?  How many of them did you actually keep?

One of the definitions of resolution, according to the Oxford English Dictionary is:

a firm decision to do or not to do something.

Each decision you make, not just the ones you make at the beginning of the year and then do nothing with (usually called “resolutions”) affect each moment of your day.

See, at any given moment you are deciding on what to do and it has a major effect on your life, your business development, your happiness.

You can resolve today that you will lose weight (one of my big new year’s resolutions for too many years to discuss).  But it is in the moments that you are looking into the fridge or at a menu that another decision, which could help you with the resolution, has to be made.  Are you going for the fatty food or the healthy option?

In business development and rainmaking, you can make the decision, right now, to become a rainmaker!  That decision is followed by all of the little decisions you need to make daily to achieve that goal.  For example, deciding to writing a blog post to showcase your knowledge, participating in social media to increase your name exposure, to follow-up with the potential referral source to see how you can benefit each other, and so forth.

Each is a little decision – you can do it or not do it, but it will affect your rainmaking and business development efforts which ever decision you make.

Tony Robbins once said:

A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve
taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided.

What decisions have you made for this year? What actions are you going to take?

(By the way, I have decided to stop trying to lose weight and concentrate on eating healthfully, in smaller quantities, and to move a lot more this year – four days in and it’s going pretty good – remind me to tell you how it’s going in 4 months.)
